We make for you the reservation.You pay in Havana on arrival (or the day after in your hotel) the car rental to our Cuban partner. On the day of the pick up of the car, you are accompanied by our host to the car rental agency, where you pay the insurance & deposit.

Important Notes

1) It is possible that you find on other websites lower prices when the websites are not yet updated for 2010, or advertise with prices on the web, that turn out to be for low season and are actually higher at the moment of booking.

2) The prices you find here are the best possible prices in CUC for the public !

3) There is a shortage in economic rental cars during the high season on Cuba. It happens that rental cars for these periods are booked for you by car rental agencies, but that they are not available on the day of pick up due to lack of capacity & materials to maintain the whole fleet. This can only be avoided by booking with a reliable operator working together with a Cuban host & agency. They look continuously after your car rental reservation to claim the reservation, and check if the car comes available on the right time and on the right place.

4) To be complete we can offer you so called Flexi Fly & Drive programs, however we recommend to go for a real tailor made travel according to your specific wishes.

The reason for this is multiple: 1) many interesting colonial & boutique hotels are not part of the FFD program, 2) we can offer an interesting mix of boutique hotels & homestay programs that receive a high degree of positive feedback (see Cuba review section); in the FFD program you pay for staying all nights in hotels, in case you wish to stay several nights in a homestay the hotels are being paid for and are not refunded in the FFD program, 3) what seems attractive of being flexible at the moment of traveling may lead to the situation that you will have to stay in less attractive hotels at high season as the better hotels have been fully booked months before...

For the peak of high season (22 December - 2 January) the rental companies may calculate a little higher dayprice; ask for a quotation together with a tailor made day program if you are ready to book /

Notes on private transfers with taxis, or your own driver:

1) Economic alternatives on Cuba for private transfers are taxi transfers from one location to another. If you prefer not to travel on Cuba by selfdrive: 1) you can travel by regular bus, or 2) by several private taxi transfers. Traveling with private taxi transfers is quite common within a tailor made program of 3 days up to 4 weeks and can be very well combined with regular bus transfers from one city to another as well. Private taxi transfers or excursions can be in standard taxis or in classical American cars (closed roof or cabriolets).

2) For travel parties of 5 - 16 pax or more it is interesting to consider:
a) to rent a minivan and drive yourself, b) to contract a bus with driver and a national Cuban guide (recommended for small parties looking for guidance), or c) to contract a bus with driver & tourguide specialized in Cuba of Soultime Travel (recommended for 8 - 16 pax for tailor made programs with daywalks and excursions).

We design the tailor made program and especially in case of 15 - 21 days programs that are different from the standard roundtrips to experience the real Cuba, it is recommended to contract Soultime Travel for the coordination & guiding services. In this case a Cuban guide is usually present for half of the program and then returns to Havana halfway (see also: Guiding Services & Special projects / Cuba Group Travel).

3) A driver-guide for 3 days or more can be rented as long as you book all nights in hotels. A professional guide drives your vehicle and gives you assistance and explanations when you want in the language you prefer. VIP travel with driver is possible with an Audi A4 & A6.

4) On internet you can find offers of private working drivers who can drive your rental car that is contracted by you. It is our experience that 1) these freelance drivers are difficult to get 100% compromised, 2) they are not permitted to be contracted by Cuban operators, and that it is for these reasons far from recommended to use this construction so far.
