The Northwest of Argentina is one of the most fascinating areas of Argentina offering a variety of ecosystems, landscapes & culture.

Here you find still the soul of indigenous cultures mixed with Spanish influences. Many travellers dream of the beauty of Patagonia, but the Northwest of Argentina has to offer much more for those who like to be surrounded by immense nature in silence and meet the deep soul of the Northwest. We offer selfdrive & group roundtrips through the Valley of Calchaquies with Indian villages, famous wine houses, abandoned haciendas, plains with huge cactuses & amazingly shaped rock formations.

You can continue to the Altiplano (altitude nearly 4000 m!) with the typical puna vegetation, or return to Salta. From the Altiplano you may continue to the largest salt plains of Argentina and descend into the colourful canyon landscape of Purmamarca & the Huamahuaca gorge. You can visit the pre-Inca ruins of Tilcara and join a lama trekking of one or more days, to experience how the people travelled in the earlier days, before the Spaniards introduced the horse & mule.

In this round trips you follow some stretches of the famous Route 40, from the wine fields of Cafayate to the Altiplano & the saltplains, an unpaved route in an area of undescribed beauty for the individual traveler. The route runs from Patagonia to the border of Bolivia. The itinerary in the dry season can be accomplished without problems with a normal car. When you return to Salta again, you descend and cross through a wonderful & lush green mountain cloud forest, and in this way you will have a complete vision of the several ecosystems on several altitudes of the northwest.

Treks on horseback or by foot from 3-10 days, guided by Gauchos, can be added to your program. You travel through fascinating valleys & mountains with pre-Inca & Incaica sites, where you can come only on foot or by horse.
